Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Maintaining Professional Competence through SAINT and SPBNDT
The SAINT Professional Body for Non-Destructive Testing (SPBNDT) requires all designated individuals to participate in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme to maintain and renew their professional designation. The CPD system ensures that NDT Operators and Technicians remain competent, up to date with industry standards, and actively engaged in professional growth within the Non-Destructive Testing industry.
The CPD programme operates on an annual cycle of one (1) year, which corresponds with the validity period of the designation certificate issued by SAINT/SPBNDT. Each CPD cycle begins on the anniversary date of the individual’s designation, as indicated on the designation certificate. This date also marks the expiry date of the designation, at which point the individual must apply for renewal and demonstrate that the required CPD points have been achieved for that year.
CPD Requirements
Designated individuals must accumulate the minimum required CPD points per cycle in order to qualify for renewal of their designation.
CPD operates on a one-year cycle.
The cycle begins on the designation anniversary date issued by SPBNDT.
Members must achieve the minimum required CPD points each year.
Additional points may be earned but cannot be carried over to the next CPD cycle.
CPD Criteria and Activities
The total number of CPD points consists of compulsory activities and optional activities that members may select from to reach the required total.
CPD requirements differ depending on the professional designation level.
Non-Compliance with CPD Requirements
If a designated individual fails to comply with the CPD requirements, SAINT/SPBNDT may impose one or more of the following measures:
Require the individual to complete an approved remedial CPD programme within a specified period.
Initiate the disciplinary procedure.
Remove the individual’s name from the professional register if non-compliance persists.
Auditing of CPD Activities
The SAINT Professional Body for NDT (SPBNDT) may conduct random audits of CPD records for designated individuals.
Random audits conducted at the individual’s place of work.
Requests for additional documentation if irregularities are identified.
Members must submit requested documentation within two (2) weeks of notification.
SPBNDT will communicate the audit outcome within four (4) weeks after completion of the audit.
Although employers may retain CPD documentation, each designated individual is responsible for maintaining their own records.
Members must:
Retain CPD documentation for a minimum of five (5) years.
Present records when requested by SAINT/SPBNDT.
If an audit determines that CPD requirements were not met:
The matter will be referred to the Designation Committee.
The individual may be required to complete remedial CPD activities.
The member may be flagged for re-audit in the following year.
